The original building was built in 1888 by a men’s organization that called themselves the Odd Fellows. In 1928, Joe Gabriel opened Gabriel Furniture at the corner of College Avenue and Morrison Street, downtown Appleton. In 1974, Joe Wells began his career with Gabriel Furniture in sales. Some 14 years later, Joe and Ruby Wells purchased the business from Mr. Gabriel and expanded the business to include the three adjacent buildings, expanding the showroom space to 30,000 square feet. Today, Gabriel Furniture continues to change and adapt to the furniture industry. The third floor that was originally a ballroom is now a loft-like showroom, along with other updates. Gabriel Furniture offers one of the most unique shopping experiences imaginable and provides a look at history too.
